Chelsea goalkeeper dives in to help save Mary Hare pool

- May 24 at 11:37

Chelsea Football Club Goal Keeper Asmir Begović visited Mary Hare School for Deaf Children and Young People and donated £10,000 to the Sink or Swim appeal.

The Sink or Swim appeal is for the school’s swimming pool which is in urgent need of renovation and modernisation. The pool is not only used by the students at Mary Hare but by the wider community.

Asmir is Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for both Chelsea and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, for which he is vice-captain. The Asmir Begovic Foundation supports both the building and improvement of recreational facilities in England, and also in his birth country. The Foundation is very passionate about encouraging children to be active and live a fun and healthy lifestyle, with the opportunity to partake in various sporting activities.

Mary Hare School for deaf children is located in Newbury Berkshire and educates around 230 pupils. It is a non-maintained special school for profoundly and severely deaf children and young people from all over the UK. Pupils’ fees are paid for by the Local Education Authority where they live. The vast majority of pupils board at Mary Hare, their family homes being too far away for them to attend as day pupils.  It is also a registered charity (1002680)
