When pupils at Westgate Primary School heard a Rwandan school for the deaf needed £1,500 for a new rainwater tank, they decided to help and donations poured in.

The Bury St Edmunds school’s new head teacher Jim Cleaver said: “The children have been busy raising money by filling small water bottles with loose change. So far we have collected £400.”

Another £350 has been raised by Suffolk County Council’s Sensory Impairment Team and the school is holding a raffle to raise more.

Cheques payable to Rwanda Easysaver can be sent to the hearing impaired unit at Westgate CP School, Brooklands Close, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 3JX.
