The revival of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater’s musical ”Spring Awakening” opened this week at the Brooks-Atkinson Theatre where nearly the entire company, composed of more than 20 performers, both deaf and hearing, celebrated a Broadway debut.

McKenzie and Sandra Mae Frank, who lead the cast as Melchior and Wendla, along with Oscar winner Marlee Matlin, Emmy winner Camryn Manheim, ”Glee” veteran Ali Stroker, and more of the Deaf West cast members, who are joyfully getting acquainted with the Great White Way.
Michael Arden, who makes his directorial Broadway debut at the helm of the production, also shares some feelings about the musical’s journey from a Los Angeles black box theater to the biggest stage on the East Coast.
